Year Round Scribbles
What is a Scribble?
A scribble is a low-key gathering of creatives under the First Draft banner. They may take place at coffee shops, libraries, book stores, pubs, etc., and the purpose is sharing space with other people who want community as they pursue their creativity. Everyone is welcome, no matter what level of experience, kind of creativity/craft/art you’re engaging in, professional/amateur status, and so on.
Scribbles can be hosted by FDD board members or community members! Each has its own vibe. Try out a few to find your people! FDD holds the space, and you fill it.
The details for our Year Round Scribbles can be found in the calendar below. For quick reference, we have:
- First and Third Wednesdays at Dessert Oasis in Ferndale, 4:30-7:30pm
- Second Thursdays at Road Less Traveled Books in Farmington, 4:30-6:30pm
- Final Fridays at The Fern in Royal Oak, 5:00-7:00pm

Be the Scribble you wish to see in the world! Board members only have so much availability and geographic freedom, so we welcome participant-hosted Scribbles!
Discord Scribbles: If you wish to host a Scribble on Discord, please email firstdraftdetroit@gmail.com with your day/time and username, then be ready to show up and take command of the Sprinto bot!
In Person Scribbles: We need a little more info for these ones. Email firstdraftdetroit@gmail.com with:
- Your day/date/time
- Your venue. Good locations for Scribbles include coffee shops, libraries, community centers, etc. Anywhere where a handful of people can cluster with laptops. It should have wifi and a reasonable amount of plugs. Make note of the parking situation and accessibility of the building. If needed, contact the venue about reserving space. Even if they don’t do reservations, it’s best practice to check in and make sure they know we’re coming and are cool with it!
Your Scribble will be added to the calendar ASAP. Be ready to host! This means being a friendly face and welcoming participants, helping maintain your Scribble’s particular vibe, and maybe having a few go-to supplies available like a surge protector or extension cord.
