Suddenly Auction

The Suddenly Auction will be the first major fundraiser of 2025, and we need you to make it a success!

  • When: At the Midway Midway Madness, the final event of the Summer Frenzy 2025
  • When’s that?: Saturday, July 12th, 11:30-3:30. Auction will begin at the start of the event and conclude at approximately 2:30.
  • Where: Dovetail cafe: 29200 Hoover rd, Warren, mi

Made By Someone

The auction is intended to be items made by individuals. That could be you! It could also be something you have commissioned from a creator, purchased from an art fair, or even found on Etsy. The important thing is that SOMEONE made it. You found a Suddenly blanket at walmart that you want to donate? THANKS! We’ll save it for a raffle. You found Suddenly fabric and made a blanket? Now THAT’s an auction item.

Some Kind of Art

Art takes many forms, and it’s all welcome. Fine art like drawings, paintings, or prints of digital artwork. Literal Suddenlies in the form of crocheted dinos, homemade stuffies, sculpted figurines, painted ceramics, etc. Fiber arts like scarves or gloves with dino or scaley patterns. Suddenly printed fabrics turned into dice bags, blankets, or clothing. Written works, such as poetry, count too. Decorated cookies! Enamel pins! Do you want to make an elaborate shoebox diorama? We’re sure not telling you no. If it’s An Art, we want to see it!

A Suddenly!

Suddenly is our mascot and the theme of this event. The OG Suddenly is a green long neck dinosaur. But any dinosaur can be a Suddenly! As long as your item features dinosaurs, it’s in.

How Do I Donate My Item?

You can bring your item to any event where a board member will be present between now and July 12th. That’s all of our official monthly Scribbles, the Summer Frenzy Kickoff, or any Scribbles hosted by board members during the Summer Frenzy.

You can also bring your item to the Midway Midway Madness. Plan to arrive at the VERY beginning of the event, so that we can add your item to the auction as we are setting up.

Finally, if neither of these options work for you, shoot us an email at firstdraftdetroit@gmail.com to discuss how you can get your item to us.

However you get us your item, we’ll ask for a little information about it to write it a description, the name of the person who created it, and its approximate value in order to assign it a starting bid. You’ll be credited as a donor to First Draft Detroit, and we’ll provide a receipt for your records on request.

How Will The Auction Work?

Items will be on display throughout the event. Each one will have a paper next to it with a description and the bidding history. To bid, you write your name on the list with your bid, which must be a whole dollar amount higher than the previous bid. The auction will be called shortly before the end of the event. Must be present to win. We will accept cash, credit, paypal, or cashapp on site.
